About Abby Allen

 

Abby Allen is a food writer and ardent campaigner for slow, seasonal produce. Living in rural Devon Abby has spent the last 10 years behind the scenes of some of the country’s most recognisable ethical food brands including River Cottage and Pipers Farm. 

Her passion for sustainability, and specifically seasonality, is at the heart of everything she does, using her words to persuade others to reconnect with small-scale family farms and enjoy the magic of nature. 

Abby has authored two celebrated cookbooks The Sustainable Meat Cookbook and The Farm Kitchen, each offering carefully crafted, flavour-first recipes infused with food ethics, seasonal wisdom, and a respect for small‑scale farming. Her work sharing the stories of small scale farmers earned her the Observer Food Monthly Award for Best Social Media Account, recognized at the 2022 Observer Food Awards.

She is also a Devon Wildlife Trust Trustee and a Nature Friendly Farming Network Champion, playing an active role in shaping UK agricultural policy and promoting agri-environment schemes that support biodiversity, soil health, and regenerative livestock farming. Abby has recently become an ambassador for the campaign Soil Ed, driven to ensure food and farming is reinstalled into the National Curriculum, and all children have access to food and farming education.  

Abby’s writing, recipes, and storytelling are shaped by childhood days spent on family farms, absorbing lessons from grandparents on turning seasonal gluts into nourishing feasts. Her books, essays, and public speaking are driven by a belief that how we farm and eat is fundamentally connected to our wellbeing and the future of the land. 

In 2025, Abby founded Abby Loves, a lovingly curated lifestyle space celebrating slow seasonal living, mindful details, and countryside charm. Her mission is to welcome you into a little corner of the world where slow living, thoughtful details and countryside charm are always in season.

I partnered with Beaumont & Bear to create authentic, story-driven content that highlights their commitment to supporting the farming industry. I produced on-farm video content that captured the brand in a real working environment, showcasing both the practicality and quality of their clothing. By combining lifestyle storytelling with purpose-led messaging, I helped communicate their values, raise awareness of their impact within the farming community, and build a stronger emotional connection with their audience.

Somerset Grill Co

I collaborated with Somerset Grill to develop and produce a series of engaging recipe videos that showcase their products in a fresh and accessible way. From concept development and recipe creation to filming and presentation, I crafted content designed to resonate with their target audience across digital platforms. By combining visually appealing storytelling with practical, easy-to-follow recipes, I helped strengthen the brand’s online presence, highlight product versatility, and drive audience engagement through shareable, high-quality food content.
